USS Missouri BB 63 by tr4br USS Missouri BB 63 by tr4br
USS Missouri (BB-63) ("Mighty Mo" or "Big Mo") is a United States Navy Iowa-class battleship, and was the fourth ship of the U.S. Navy to be named in honor of the U.S. state of Missouri. Missouri was the last battleship built by the United States, and was the site of the surrender of the Empire of Japan which ended World War II.

Missouri was finally decommissioned on 31 March 1992, but remained on the Naval Vessel Register until her name was struck in January 1995. In 1998, she was donated to the USS Missouri Memorial Association and became a museum ship at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Missouri received three battle stars for her service in World War II, five for her service during the Korean War, and three for her service during the Gulf War. Missouri also received numerous awards for her service in World War II, Korea, and the Persian Gulf.

The most powerful battleship Still Floating and arguably the best battleship ever made. I'd love to go all the way to pearl harbor just to see this magnificent machine.

I saw the USS IOWA BB-61 , When I was stationed at NAB , Norfork , VA. in 1982 . Same kind of bad ass ship .  She is now on permanent display in California .  I miss the excitement and the travel in US. NAVY .

1st off, thanks for serviceing or family that has servied.
You are a wealth of info on these amazing ships. I've seen Mighty Mo, flying in to Pearl, always see something coming in or out.
The service records are a nice touch to go with your photos.

If I am correct. The BB-62 New Jersey was where the site of Japan's surrender was orginally gonna take place.............but this something many Navy vets tell me & the vets who served on battleships like BB-62 & BB-63 have confirmed this & yet many have denied this info. I recall the so called switch from being BB-62 to BB-63 having to do with something regarding the president's daughter & the state BB-63 is named after.

I don't think your correct. I am 99.999999999 sure that the Japanese surrendered on the USS Missouri.

.......................................................................................................SIGH. U DON'T UNDERSTAND!!! I know it was signed on the USS Missouri.....................but before that it was gonna be signed on the BB-62 aka USS New Jersey. But the Truman wanted this historic moment to be done on USS Missouri & I know this because I know several vets who served on USS Missouri & USS New Jersey. Then again not many people know this because it's not known by most.

Well that, and Missouri is where President Truman was from...
